Forex Sessions and Pairs to Trade

The forex market is split into sessions and pairs based on the countries involved. The two major sessions in the day are the Asian and European. In the Asian session, the trading begins at 12 PM in Sydney and closes at 8 AM in Tokyo. This is the first trading day in the week. There are eight main currency pairs traded in the Asian session. The trading hours are different from those of the European or American sessions. In general, major currency pairs have larger fluctuations, so they're considered the most volatile and often have large price changes during the day.

The European and Asian sessions overlap, but the European session has more activity than the Asian. This is due to the fact that European businesses tend to trade with companies outside of Europe during the day. At night, however, most European businesses remain closed, so the euro sees less activity. Moreover, the activity of currency pairs in each session will be dependent on the number of countries trading at a particular time. Despite the differences in the trading hours, the activity will always differ.
